The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) provides oversight and institutional reviews of research activities and teaching activities involving vertebrate animal subjects to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
For questions about forms or processes, contact the Office of Research Compliance.
Protocols for research should be submitted a minimum of thirty (30) days in advance of the anticipated start date. Protocols for teaching should be submitted a minimum of sixty (60) days in advance of the anticipated start date.
Initial approval is granted for a maximum of 1-3 years. A Continuing Review (no change to the protocol) will need to be submitted a minimum of thirty (30) days before the expiration date to extend the approval period. De novo reviews are required every three (3) years. An Amendment must be submitted to revise the protocol at any time, allowing a minimum of thirty (30) days for review.
All personnel listed on a protocol for research or teaching must annually enroll in or opt-out of the Occupational Health Program (OHP). The purpose of the OHP is to identify and evaluate potential health risks to personnel who participate in research or teaching activities involving animal subjects or biohazardous materials. Approvals of protocols will not be issued until ORC has received confirmation from Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) that all personnel listed have enrolled in or opted-out of the OHP.
